The European Compliance Academy (ECA) announced today that it appointed Dr
Sven Deutschmann as Chairman of its Working Group for Rapid Microbiological
Methods (RMM). He follows Dr Bob Johnson who served as the second Chairman
of the Group. We thank Bob for leading the group after the founding Chairman
Mike Edington deceased in 2007.
Dr Deutschmann has already been member of the RMM Working Group since its
foundation in June 2006. He studied biology at the University of
Braunschweig where he obtained his PhD in cell culture technology. In 1995
he joined Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, now Roche Diagnostics GmbH, as Manager
QC. He was responsible for the microbiological and cell biological analytics
of QC- and In-Process-Control-samples in the production of biotechnological
derived active pharmaceutical ingredients and for the environmental
monitoring program in the production areas. Since 2001 he is Director of the
Microbiology QC Department. Dr Deutschmann is member of the Microbiology
Commission of the German Pharmacopoeia Commissions and specialist resp.
member in several Working Parties of the Pharmacopoeia Commissions. "I'm
honoured by the appointment and I will do my best to continue the successful
work from Bob Johnson and Mike Edington," Dr Deutschmann said.
"As a founding Member of the RMM Group and well known expert in the field of
rapid microbiological methods Sven will bring a wealth of practical
experience to ECA", said Daniel Scheidegger, ECA Chairman and Vice President
Operations and Managing Director of Genzyme Pharmaceuticals, Liestal,
Switzerland. "We're very grateful that he accepted our invitation to lead
the Working Group to support both authorities and industry in getting a
better understanding of the requirements and thereby advancing the
introduction of RMMs to the industry", he continued.
