It’s presence in non-sterile pharma processing rooms is common, but it must be treated with a sealant of some type to ensure that it is rendered non-porous.
Typical sealants would include epoxy resin type paints, application of caulking along the edges to eliminate any recesses in which debris, powders, microbes etc may be trapped.
It is certainly fragile, i.e. easily damaged, but provide you train production staff to look for evidence of such damage and have it repaired promptly, it can be used for most pharma operations.
